(Terry) Ryuichi Sakamoto - Forbidden Colours
i've been thinking of doing this for a while....sending a mp3 to my friends with my thoughts and memories of that tune...why i like it, what it reminds me of, why i bought/downloaded it...the reaons why i like the music i like...and i also want you to reciprocate...i want to know what individual tracks you particularly like..all the memories and stories associated....
i intend to send one every week or two...depending how drunk i am..............
so, here we go with my first choice, a track that came out in 1984, the tune by ryuichi sakamoto and the lyrics by david sylvian (originally) although this version has no lyrics.
i bought the single back in '84, partly because it was the theme music to merry christmas mr lawrence (bowie influence) but mainly because i thought it was a great tune (the b side was good too). i played it incessantly, along with frankie goes to cricklewood and the smiths when i was pissed (must have miffed mum and dad) into the early hours...
hey ho...
never thought too much of it in the nineties, then one night, jonathon ross (he had just taken over from barry thingy on film whatever) was talking to ryuichi sakamoto (about some soundtrack) and he asked him to play merrry christmas mr lawrence. i was lying in bed at the time with sandie (at st chads) and we were both close to tears. it was so clean and touching. innocent. one man and a piano. i could not believe my ears.
i looked everywhere for the album but was unsuccessful. (i wished i had taped film whatever...). when i got broadband, it was one of the first tracks i looked for and it took an age to find. so, here it is... i used it last year as a soundtrack to some pictures of molly i took...it is the perfect music...sadness and joy...i can now only picture my molly when i hear it...how wonderful is music?
so, there we go....... now it's your turn..............
